Variations in Variations – Aluminium, LED source – 6 x 3 x 2 m – 2022 Damien Bénéteau – Room n°2

carrés-newsletter-fondation-vasarely-fevrier-2023
For the past ten years, Damien Bénéteau has been developing a series of sculptures, Variations, which make tangible the ordinarily imperceptible forces that govern our universe.

Each Variation reflects its play of light and shadow in the immediate environment and seeks to draw the eye into an almost meditative state. This work is now evolving into more immersive, technical and large-scale forms, with, he claims, the influence of optico-kinetic art on his work.

In this installation, the interaction between movement, volume and light creates an environment marked by depth, mystery and a certain solemnity. The slow and regular oscillation of the mobile sculpture is part of a temporal loop that calls to mind the image of a metronome or a chronometric measuring instrument.

RESTAURATION
OF THE ORIGINAL STUDIES BY VASARELY

Within the Vasarely Plasticien exhibition, the Foundation is exhibiting 210 original studies from a collection originally composed of 798 works in 6 mechanized display cases.

These studies are currently undergoing conservation-restoration by the Atelier Cédric Lelièvre (Preventive Conservation and Restoration of Graphic Arts).
The conservation-restorers are carefully removing all dust from the surface of the works and reframing them.

The Foundation hopes to be able to restore other display cases in the near future in order to show the reconstituted collection.

This restoration was carried out with the financial support of the DRAC PACA and with the technical and scientific assistance of the CICRP.

LOVE-POURSUIT

FEBRUARY 14th

in collaboration with the Théâtre Antoine Vitez and La Biennale d’Aix-en-Provence

carrés-newsletter-fondation-vasarely-fevrier-2023

Focused on love chases, students from Aix-en-Provence will read and perform intermittently, all along the journey, in the AixPress bus, line A, a poetic writing that will mix narratives, screenshots, testimonies, documents, images, to summon a sensitive geo-localization of our states of love.

Directed in writing by Sonia Chiambretto, in reading and acting by Alice Leclerc, in movement in the city and in close proximity to the bus users, they will make us hear what is said about love in the meanders we sometimes take.

carrés-newsletter-fondation-vasarely-fevrier-2023

Julie Malaure, journalist at Le Point, has immersed herself in the history of the Vasarely Foundation. In a series of four articles. She retraces the life and project of Victor Vasarely but also of three other characters who have particularly harmed his work: Charles Debbasch, Yann Streiff and Michèle Taburno.

Articles already published: « L’artiste utopiste et ses rejetons », January 1st; « Charles Debbasch, l’escroc savant », January 2nd; « Yann Streiff, l’avocat marron », January 5th; « La belle-fille sulfureuse » remains to be published.
