Wrong-way period

Wrong-way period

Between 1935 and 1947, Vasarely rediscovers painting. During this period, which he called his “false routes”, influenced by the pictorial movements of the time, and in particular by cubist and surrealist painting, Vasarely turned to still lifes, landscapes and portraits. The works produced during this period, “Self-portrait” (1941), “The Blind Man” (1946), although figurative, reflect an evolution towards a simplification and a schematization of the object.
