On April 11, the French and American judicial authorities seized in Puerto Rico in premises belonging to Michèle Taburno-Vasarely a hundred original works of Victor Vasarely. The search and seizure of the works that were the object of the fraudulent misappropriations in the premises belonging to Mrs Taburno are the result of this criminal procedure carried out with great rigour and competence by the French justice system with the collaboration of the American justice system. The Board of Directors of the Vasarely Foundation is pleased to see justice fulfilling its function and eventually allowing the Foundation’s assets to be reconstituted, thus respecting the wishes of the artist Victor Vasarely and beyond, the influence of French national artistic heritage.

The Vasarely Foundation continues its partnership with the Centre Pompidou, Musée national d’art moderne-Centre de création industrielle for the 4th consecutive year, with the summer exhibition “Vasarely avant l’Op, une abstraction européenne, 1945-1955”. From June 17 to October 15, 2023, a selection of 35 major works on loan from the Paris museum, the Musée départemental Matisse, the Musée d’art moderne de la ville de Paris, the Hartung-Bergman Foundation, the Marta Pan Foundation, the Denise René Gallery and private collections will be presented in Aix-en-Provence, at the Vasarely Foundation during four months. With works by Agam, Jean-Michel Atlan, André Bloc, Simone Boisecq, Robert Breer, Geneviève Claisse, Jean Dewasne, Jean Deyrolle, Cesar Domela, Etienne Gilioli, Hans Hartung, Auguste Herbin, Robert Jacobsen, Berto Lardera, Alberto Magnelli, Richard Mortensen, Pablo Palazuelo, Marta Pan, Ideo Pantaleoni, Alicia Penalba, Edgar Pillet, Serge Poliakoff, Gérard Schneider, Pierre Soulages, Victor Vasarely and Nicolaas Warb. Curated by Michel Gauthier
The conservation-restoration project for the monumental integrations Zett and Tridim-Blanc has begun. Under the direction of Magalie Troy, curator-restorer specialising in contemporary painting, a team of five curator-restorers* will take turns at the bedside of the two works for four months in an attempt to erase the scars of time. This is a daunting task for works measuring 8 m high by 6 m wide. *Laura Briganti, Paolo Cremonesi, Christelle Lemaire, Roos Campman, Alice Le Bohec

EUROPE DAY Tuesday 9 May
Within the framework of the demanding partnership between the Lycée Vauvenargues of Aix, the Lycée Leöwey of Pécs and the Vasarely Foundation, and on the occasion of Europe Day, the high school students of Pécs will present their new theatrical creation (in French!), which is as original and explosive as ever. The Aix high school students will present their very varied productions: travel diaries, a film about Aix and their trip to Hungary, research and studies on Hungary and European sentiment, a photo report in the form of a poster inspired by Victor Vasarely. A student will play the galoubet and the tambourine as a musical interlude. photomontage Catherine Rousseau
NIGHT OF THE MUSEUMS Saturday 13 May
Discover the museum night with a selection of original works and documents by Victor Vasarely. For an even more enriching experience, take part in a guided tour “Discovery” proposed by a mediator, where you can dive into the universe of Victor Vasarely, from graphic art to the “polychrome city of happiness”. Visits are offered at two different times: from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm and from 9 pm to 10 pm.
MEDIATION
In May, the Vasarely Foundation invites you to explore all the facets of colour in the work of the master artist, through interactive tours and friendly workshops. Victor Vasarely, fascinated by the interferences of the chromatic palette, uses techniques of superimposition and gradation to give the impression that geometric shapes detach from the flat surface, thus creating a 3D effect.
MASTERCLASS
Attend the concert masterclass of the talented Dutch multidisciplinary artist Reyn on Wednesday 10 May at 7.30 pm. This virtuoso pianist has worked on more than a dozen film and TV soundtracks, as well as with French pop stars such as Vanessa Paradis, Benjamin Biolay and Stephan Eicher. This evening promises to be an exceptional musical experience with high sensitivity. Admission is free, with registration.
MIRIAM PRANTL & STEFAN FAAS until 10 May
Discover the exhibition “Space | Light | Reflection” in collaboration with the Galerie am Lindenplatz. The Foundation presents works by the Austrian artist Miriam Prantl and the German metal sculptor Stefan Faas, brought together for the first time. The light installations and polished mirror steel volumes create a unique sensory experience for visitors.
Miriam Prantl is one of Austria’s most influential light artists, with her works exhibited in several museums and public spaces. Stefan Faas’ sculptures allow the viewer to immerse themselves in the work thanks to the reflective effect of the polished and reflective steel.
VASARELY, LE SOLFÈGE PLASTIQUE
Chapel of the Observance, Draguignan, France
We are delighted to announce our forthcoming exhibition highlighting the artistic world of Victor Vasarely and his wife Claire, through a selection of their works. In his writings, Vasarely cites artists such as Kandinsky, Mondrian, Klee, Malevich and Sophie Taeuber-Arp, and was inspired by the ideas of Auguste Herbin and Max Bill. This exhibition is a unique opportunity to discover the influences and artistic contributions of Vasarely and Claire.
MOUVEMENT ET LUMIÈRE
Villa Datris, L’isle-sur-la-Sorgue, France
Movement and Light, the exhibition at the Villa Datris Foundation in 2023, explores works of kinetic art from the original movement of the 1950s, as well as new generations of artists. Light is also emphasized in the conception of the 81 works presented, created by 60 emerging and historic French and international artists. The ensemble creates a hypnotic and luminous visual experience for visitors. Come and discover this unique exhibition in the magnificent Villa Datris from 19 May to 1 November. Our current works still have the outward appearance of the old painting, but the new element is already there. It is a question of discerning and extracting it at the time of the great creations. There are two main aspects to the abstract: Victor Vasarely – Notes Brutes, 1953
