The Vasarely Foundation continues its partnership with the Centre Pompidou, Musée national d’art moderne-Centre de création industrielle for the 4th consecutive year, with the summer exhibition “Vasarely avant l’Op, une abstraction européenne, 1945-1955”. From June 17 to October 15, 2023, a selection of 35 major works on loan from the Centre Pompidou, the Musée départemental Matisse, the Musée d’art moderne de la ville de Paris, the Hartung-Bergman Foundation, the Marta Pan Foundation, the Denise René Gallery and private collections will be presented at the Fondation Vasarely for four months.
On 16 June, during our vernissage, we will be making an exceptional appeal for your generosity to help us run the centre and carry out our work with less privileged members of the public. This type of action is intended to become more regular. Donations are tax-deductible. We are also relaunching an online sales campaign where you can discover a new selection of framed vintage screen prints. Each original silkscreen has been signed and numbered by Victor Vasarely.
EXHIBITION from 12 June to 15 July opening on 12 June at 7pm
Don’t miss the PHOTO-OPART experience, an exhibition showcasing projects from the photography department at Budapest’s Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, MOME. The works on display range from photography to video animations and spatial installations, illustrating contemporary advances in op art and kineticism. This exhibition, organised in collaboration with the Vasarely Museum in Pécs, also offers photographic art seminars supervised by renowned experts. Come and discover these captivating works of art based on photography, presented in the form of interactive installations. The Vasarely Museum’s OP Art Academy is committed to providing a diverse art education for students, encouraging intergenerational dialogue and free artistic expression while paying tribute to the legacy of Vasarely and other artists.
Immerse yourself in Vasarely’s “new vision”, which pushes back the limits of photography by integrating movement and time as the fourth dimension of optical perception. This exhibition reflects Victor Vasarely’s commitment to education, which has left its mark on the history of art. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to discover the work of a key artist whose theory of optical art and kineticism continues to influence university art and design programmes.
Guided by the artist’s visionary thinking, the mediator offers a tour inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the world of visual artist Victor Vasarely and discover the many facets of the work of the father of optical art. The visit is structured around a stroll through the different periods of the artist’s work in the Foundation’s permanent collections and the temporary exhibition “VASARELY AVANT L’OP, UNE ABSTRACTION EUROPÉENNE, 1945-1955” (VASARELY BEFORE THE OP, A EUROPEAN ABSTRACTION, 1945-1955).
Come and explore the shapes Victor Vasarely used to create his paintings! You’ll be able to play with colours and geometric patterns to create visual illusions just like he did. In this fun workshop, you’ll discover how different shapes can fit together to form a three-dimensional square of colours: yellow, green and purple! Join us for an artistic adventure full of colour, shape and creativity! Wednesday 7 and 21 June at 2.30pm* :
Accompany your child in his or her first artistic sensations! The BABY ART workshops have been designed to give your child the chance to take his or her first steps into the world of art from an early age. The approach to the works of art is very simple, thanks to games and puzzles, giving your child the chance to get to grips with Victor Vasarely’s formal and colourful vocabulary. We look forward to seeing you every first Saturday of the month to share this moment of relaxation and artistic awakening with your family.

In the wake of the Covid crisis and in the context of current geopolitical and inflationary tensions, the cultural sector must respond to the challenges of global warming, while at the same time facing a systemic crisis that is shaking up all certainties and forcing it to rethink its artistic proposals and economic models in the long term. In this context, public policies are being rethought in the light of these new challenges. The creation of the Provence Culture network, a network of excellence, gives us a framework within which to reflect together on strategies for the future, to have the capacity to defend shared values and to act in solidarity with any member of the network who is weakened by the current crisis. The exhibition, which highlights Victor Vasarely’s artistic universe through a selection of his works, has already been running for a month. In his writings, Vasarely cites artists such as Kandinsky, Mondrian, Klee, Malevitch and Sophie Taeuber-Arp, drawing inspiration from the ideas of Auguste Herbin and Max Bill.
MOUVEMENT ET LUMIÈRE
Villa Datris, L’isle-sur-la-Sorgue
Movement and Light, the exhibition at Villa Datris, explores works of kinetic art from the original movement of the 1950s, as well as new generations of artists. Light is also given pride of place in the design of the 81 works on display (including 3 by Vasarely), created by 60 emerging and established French and international artists. Together, they create a hypnotic, luminous visual experience for visitors. Come and discover this unique exhibition in the magnificent Villa Datris. The whole of the creative forces is comparable to the molecules of a gas moving in the continuum of space-time. Each of the particles that make up this body has its reason for being, is subject to a common law, and yet is an individual. Victor Vasarely – Notes Brutes, 1950

Rather than tackle these issues separately, we have decided to structure our network of cultural institutions, in the conviction that we will be stronger if we assert together what we are and if we develop together our assets on our territory as well as on the national and international level.
