Exhibition at the Fondation Vasarely
From June 2 to July 11, 2010

This exhibition places side by side the architectural and visual art heritage of the Vasarely Foundation side by side with contemporary artworks that develop a transversal approach across “digital” art, design and sound creation.

Here, artwork created on site and known of as « integrations » are shown along side a selection of the silkscreen prints produced by the master of Op Art, Victor Vasarely, a sculpture by the forefather of cybernetic art, Nicolas Schoëffer – chronos b – and other artworks recognized as being at the spearhead of today’s “digital” art . If the Vasarely Foundation, a veritable shrine of Op art, has work that is considered some of the most contemporary pieces of graphic artwork today, we can still feel that the mark of time, the vocabulary and the art language developed by the one continues to nourish the creativity and technological mastery of the other.

By revealing the attitude adopted by the creators-developers of today, those following in the wake of Victor Vasarely and Nicolas Schöffer, we will understand how their work also bears the mark of the technological upheavals of their era.

This group exhibition will be the subject of a catalogue to be published by LAb[au].

POWEr est une performance basée sur les phénomènes acoustiques et visuels issus de dispositifs électriques à haut voltage. Utilisés comme matériau brut et objectif, ces phénomènes sont générés, captés, transformés et diffusés en direct sur scène, par l'entreprise de processus numérique sonores et vidéo.
L'électricité est utilisée comme un instrument synesthésique puissant et subtil. Le rapport entre l'electron, le photon et la perturbation acoustique est inévitable.

POWEr est une commande d'œuvre de Mutek pour sa 10ème édition. Ce projet a reçu l'appui du Conseil des arts du Canada et du Conseil des arts et lettres du Québec.

POWEr is a performance based on acoustic and visual phenomena arising from high voltage electric systems. Used as the raw and objective material, these phenomena are generated and then captured, transformed and shown directly on stage through the use of visual and digital sound proccesses. Electricity is used as a powerful and subtle synthesizing instrument. The relationship between the electron, photon and the acoustic disturbance is unmissable. POWEr is a piece of work funded by Mutek for its 10th event. This project also received the support of the Canadian Arts Council and the Art and Literature Council of Quebec.

Cette exposition, qui met en vis-à-vis le patrimoine ar architectural et plastique de la Fondation Vasarely avec des créations artistiques contemporaines privilégiant une approche transversale des arts dits numériques, du design et de la création sonore, sera l’occasion d’un débat public interr interrogeant les liens entre art cinétique, cybernétique, génératif et numérique.

Cette rencontre sera animée par Jean-Noël Montagné Montagné, artiste et créateur du Centre de Ressources Art Sensitif ces à Mains d’Œuvres. En présence des artistes, de Pierre Vasarely, président de la Fondation Vasarely et de Éléonore de Lavandeyra Schöffer.
